In exploring the biopunk subgenre, dystopic settings, whether in the near-future, a cyberpunk off-shoot, or the post-apocalypse, is prevalent. Why is the biopunk genre so fascinated with dystopias? This panel will explore the various examples of dystopic biopunk in a variety of mediums, from games like BioShock to books such as Paolo Bacigalupi's The Windup Girl and Pump Six, and films Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Island of Dr. Moreau, and much more.
