Organizing Events at TempleCon 2011
Make no mistake, our volunteer event organizers are our lifeblood. Without them, there would be no convention to speak of, since there is no way that we alone could match the tireless efforts of our game masters, seminar leaders, panel speakers, and tournament organizers.
All event organizers receive free admission to TempleCon on the days that their events run so long as they run 4 hours or more of events per compensated day. We know that running events can be a lot of fun, but it's also a ton of work, and we appreciate it greatly.
At the same time, remember that making the decision to run an event at TempleCon is a partnership. We are utterly dedicated to running the highest quality convention in the world, so we expect you to approach your events at TempleCon with a similar sense of professionalism. A sad fact in the gaming and fandom convention world, even amongst the big ones, is that a large percentage of scheduled events never actually run. TempleCon is dedicated to continuing to be the exception to that rule.

Submitting Events
We are looking for people who have a passion for organizing stellar events, performances, panel discussions, contests, games, and more. We are open to submissions of any and all types of entertainment you may have in mind to bring to TempleCon, however, anything that falls within the convention theme of "Retro-Futurism" will have priority when it comes to scheduling and resources. Understand that not all events that are submitted will be approved due to space, time, and resource limitations.
A Few Tips to Running a Successful Event
If you are considering organizing your event at TempleCon, here are some things to keep in mind.
- In the case of gaming events, you should have experience playing and running the game. This is kind of obvious.
- Also in the case of gaming events, you should have a functional understanding of the rules and requirements for the game you are running. We can't all be perfect when it comes to the number of rules and errata out there, but you should feel comfortable with the system.
- If your event is participatory, you should be patient and willing to explain your event to novices.
- You should have the needed materials to bring to TempleCon, or be able to let us know what additional materials will be required at least 1 month in advance.
- Please let us know what kind of space and table type your event will require. While we are flexible, please understand that we also need to be realistic when setting aside space for your event, and we might not have your first choice of table or room type available.
- Please provide us with a brief but detailed description of the event so that we can tell people about it and get more attendees interested. Do this as early as possible.
- You should be willing and able to promote your event among the aficionados of your subject matter prior to the convention. While we actively promote all events at TempleCon, we can only focus so much on getting the word out about your particular event, and you need to help us out in order to ensure that you have as many participants as you want for your event.
- In the case of gaming events, you should contact the manufacturer of the game for prize support or demo materials. Almost all gaming companies will be happy to do this. While TempleCon has a prize support system in place, many games also feature sponsored prize support. If you need assistance in contacting a manufacturer, let us know, and we'll help you.
- Sign onto our forums to get in touch with TempleCon fans and generate excitement for your event.
- Most importantly, you need to understand that appearing at the convention on time to run your events is extremely important. While emergencies are completely understandable and do happen, we rely on you to make an effort to organize and run your event to the best of your ability. No-shows are incredibly frustrating and disappointing for both us and your event participants!
