To this day, endless debate rages on as to which classic King of Fighters game is the greatest, or more accurately said, most popular. We devised a fun tournament format to find out. At TempleCon 2010, we'll have our three Neo Geo MVS cabs on hand, and the tournament will includes original SNK cartridges of King of Fighters 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003.
Players will be bracketed and paired off in a double elimination tournament using the standard match structure of Best out of Three games. Winners will progress through the winners bracket, and losers will progress through the losers bracket or be eliminated. Three matches will take place at one time. Since this is an Anthology format tournament, there is special rule in effect. The winner with the best record in their previous match in comparison to their opponent will be allowed to dictate which version of the game to compete in in their next match, from the currently unchosen titles. The first bracket of the tournament will feature solely King of Fighters '94.
Strength of record in the previous round will determine a player's priority in choosing titles. In the case of a record tie, the winning player who completed their match in the quickest elapsed time will be given priority. A player MAY NOT choose to play the same title two matches in a row, but may be forced to play the same title by another player's choice, deferred judges' choice, or deferred randomization. A player may defer his or her game choice to his or her opponent, or may allow the acting judge to make the decision, or allow the choice to be randomized.
